One minute portrait of Brayden Schenn
So Mike Scissons from the Saskatoon Blades calls me up the other day at my day job and asks if I could grab a shot of Brayden on the ice before their practice that afternoon, he wanted to print a bunch of photos for Brayden to autograph @ the next Blades game. Sure, I said, what time? He says practice is at 2:30 and we can shoot @ 2:20.
Well, it's 2:25, the other players have come out on the ice ( I asked them to stay on the other end until we get the photo) and out comes Brayden. If I had more time I would have tried more poses and set up more lighting, but this is what I got before we had to leave the ice.
I shot with the Nikon CLS system, using the built in on camera flash and I asked John Brodsky to hold an SB800 off to my right for some side lighting.
It was over in about 45 seconds.... I'm glad my gear was ready to go when I got the call :)
Hockey Defenseman. The unspoken heroes.
No matter what you think, the defenseman is a man to be respected. The Center and the Wingers get all the limelight. The defenseman are the guys helping the goalie and scoring when they can. What you miss in most games are the little things like these. The shots are so fast, and your focus is on the shooter and goalie, that you often miss the heroic duty of the defenseman. Jim Fahey here is placing his body in front of a slap shot, yes a very fast moving frozen piece of rubber to help Martin Brodeur make a save. He will not get credit, but he will have done his job. Cheers to the defenseman in the league.
